Having grown up in somewhat rural North Carolina, writer C. Lee Dionne is no stranger to aimlessness—that itch of unease. It’s apparent in his work, as protagonists often struggle to find their place, their “people”, or a sense of belonging. His short film script IT’S NOT FUNNY follows a recovering addict attempting to laugh-track a TV episode in the era of AI; his stage play The Plug sees an exhausted pair of nurses relegated to cutting off life support for a living. A soon-to-be graduate of SNHU’s screenwriting program, Dionne is also currently developing LAS PALMAS, a coming-of-age screenplay based on his experiences working alongside a subculture of woebegone punk-rockers in a small-town restaurant, as well as In Our Bedroom After the War, a stage musical set to the music of Canadian indie-pop veterans Stars. Dionne’s work is a call to those feeling lost—and an invitation to explore what it is we’re running from.
